Ahmadabad rediscovered

Ahmadabad…this weekend I saw a side I didn’t know existed…even though I’ve probably visited Ahmadabad 15 times in my life. My experience until now was mostly limited to CG road and bits of Satellite Road and sometimes a supervised visit to the old city. This weekend, I ventured into the old city. What a magnificent place…the lively bazaars and the beautiful architecture were fun to explore. We checked out some really gorgeous dargahs and mosques. It’s too bad that the buildings were more or less unattended to and are seriously deteriorating.

My friends Becky and Elizabeth came with me to Abad and we got in the very morning of my cousin Payal’s wedding so we missed the jaan’s entry! That’s one of my favorite parts….especially when the dulha comes in on a white horse…the red convertibles that are so common now a day are just not the same. I think being with them inclined me to explore the city this weekend. I actually looked at a lonely planet entry for Abad…I need to do that for Austin/Dallas to learn of the jewels I am unaware of/take for granted. Sometimes it just takes that outside perspective.
